But while there are countless great spots around the world where one can experience remarkable dining, there is one location that truly stands out above the rest—the French Riviera.

L’Officiel Monaco has identified Zeffirino as a standout destination in Monaco for those seeking an authentic Italian dining experience. Founded by the Belloni family and now run by the third generation under the leadership of Marco Belloni, it has brought its renowned Italian cuisine to Monaco. Riccardo Giraudi, a restaurateur from Genoa, has introduced this celebrated establishment to Monaco, taking over the former Mozza location on rue du Portier. The new restaurant reflects the elegance of 1920s Italy and the essence of Zeffirino.

Zeffirino’s menu celebrates the restaurant’s acclaimed pesto, a staple that has contributed to its esteemed reputation throughout Italy. This distinctive sauce, prepared fresh for guests, enhances a variety of dishes, including Mandilli, delicate pasta sheets, and Trofie, a twisted pasta variety.

For lunch, Zeffirino offers a set menu, including a choice of starters like pizzata, crispy avocado salad, Parma ham, or seared tuna alla Puttanesca, and main courses such as the daily pasta special, veal fillet with lemon, chicken supreme with sage, or Mediterranean-style sea bream. Each meal is accompanied by a glass of wine.

Notable dishes on the menu include Paffutelli alla Frank, ravioli in a creamy basil and walnut sauce created for Frank Sinatra, cheese Focaccina, Branzino in Crosta di Sale, a whole sea bass baked in a salt crust, and Torta Mimosa, flavored with orange blossom. Under the guidance of Thierry Paludetto, the executive chef, Zeffirino offers modern and inventive dishes inspired by Ligurian cuisine. Appetizers feature Tatin de Portofino, a shortbread paired with pesto and confit cherry tomatoes, and a cod brandade that is both creamy and gratinéed. The fresh pea, fava bean, goat cheese, and smoked ricotta salad provides a refreshing contrast.

Main courses include Pappardelle with a veal ragout infused with thyme, Paccheri with lobster and fresh tarragon, Mediterranean sea bream cooked with seaweed, and Saltimbocca of veal fillet with beef prosciutto and sage. Desserts feature a chocolate and hazelnut tart, a basil and lemon mille-feuille, and a strawberry tart with creamy, fruity, and aniseed notes.

Established in 1939, Zeffirino is a renowned Genoese restaurant known for its exceptional pesto. It has served dignitaries, including popes, and international celebrities like Muhammad Ali and Céline Dion. The restaurant’s décor combines elegance and warmth, with tables dressed in white linens and seats upholstered in rich fabrics. The walls feature almond green wood paneling and accents of brushed brass, with sconces made of wicker and fabric. Black-and-white photos celebrate the history of Zeffirino and the spirit of Dolce Vita. An open kitchen at the center allows diners to watch chef Thierry Paludetto’s team prepare fresh pasta. Nearby, the curved bar creates a unique atmosphere, reminiscent of a speakeasy. Guests can enjoy cocktails such as the Ligurian Negroni, a blend of gin, Mancino Rosso, and Campari with floral and citrus notes, or a Batanga, made with Patron Tequila, lime juice, vanilla syrup, and Portofino Chinotto.
