The art of perfume helps us recall fleeting moments, memories, places, and people. An inexpressable recollection, fragrance brings us back to where time stands still; an emblem frozen in time.
The beauty of fragrance is that it speaks to your heart, … and hopefully someone else’s.” – Elizabeth Taylor.
An art form, perfume is a craft that speaks to our inner psyche and awakens emotions within us. A perfume is divided into three distinct parts; The top, heart, and base notes. The top notes are recognized upon initial application, the first impression. They are often lighter scents that fade faster but are the most recognizable. Then comes the heart notes. They bridge the top and base notes and are often pleasant and well-rounded. Finally, the base note complements the Fragrance’s complexity with a more decadent, smooth scent. It creates a lasting impression after the perfume has settled onto one’s skin.
“Fragrances are powerful magicians that can transport you through the years you have lived” Helen Keller.
Perfume encapsulates an enigma of memories that’s unique on its own. It can bring back the light floral smell of your wedding day, the scent of a mother’s hug after a long day, and transport us to places we know and love. It has a way of connecting to one’s inner psyche that has a sense of familiarity and belonging.
The art of Fragrance goes beyond experiences and can transport us into places we can only fantasize about. In 2019, Officine Universelle Buly, also known as Buly 1803, collaborated with the Louvre to create a line of fragrances inspired by famous artworks displayed at the Museum. Inspired by La Grande Odalisque, Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace.
The art of perfume can recall stories and people that have shaped your life. With each different note matched with a significant moment, Fragrance gives you a blank canvas and the freedom to create new narratives.
