Remembering the Queen of Rock n’ Roll best styles and iconic performances.
On Wednesday, 24 May, the news of Tina Tuner’s death made the world stand still. Unready to mourn the loss of a legend, at 83, the Queen of Rock’ n’ Roll passed away, leaving us behind with her musical legacy.
Tina Turner was known for her fantastic style, along with her incredible voice and many hit songs, from “Proud Mary” to “River Deep – Mountain High”. Her love of bedazzled naked minidresses, fringe galore, and daringly high splits will forever be inked in our minds. Her signature ’80s blowout and outrageous outfits, which grew bolder and bolder throughout her career, gave her a handful of the most iconic fashion moments.
“There are no rules that say you have to dress a certain way or be a certain way. We are living in exciting times for women,” Tina Turner
However, her unique fashion sense was not solely for the show: In her photo book That’s My Life, she discussed how her daring looks made her feel stronger and happier and more confident and loved.
Yet, no matter what she wore, she would always shimmer and sparkle once she started singing. One of her most recreated looks is her denim jacket, leather mini dress, and black stilettos for her mid-1980s comeback.
Over the years, Tina Turner became precious to designers such as Azzedine Alaïa and Giorgio Armani, who frequently dressed her for her music videos and red carpets.
She also worked with the celebrity stylist Bob Mackie for some of her most extravagant stage costumes; “You don’t get a Tina Turner very often who knows exactly how they want to look and how they want to move,” said Bob Mackie.
Here are several of Tina Turner’s best fashion moments:
Controlling her sensuality in her signature skin-baring look, Tina Turner wears a sparkling red mini with thigh cut-outs.
Back in London in 1993, Tina wears this shredded dress demonstrating how her style could grow ever more sensual, having ripped fabrics and extreme thigh-high splits.
Taken back in 1990, Tina Turner and her naked dress, made her become a fan of a nude illusion look.
In her “Wildest Dreams” tour in 1997, Tina Turner is wearing a Gianni Versace a black lace lined sparkly minidress showing the iconic medusa logo on the straps.
