Celebrities are saying goodbye to Twitter after Elon Musk takes over the platform.
As of November 3, Elon Musk is the official new owner of Twitter. In April of 2022, Musk began his acquisition of the platform, and on October 27, Musk completed the $44 billion deal, concluding one of the largest tech deals to date.
Amid Musk’s highly controversial acquisition, many celebrities have called quits on the platform. Musk recently shared his plans to change Twitter’s content moderation and bans, causing many to fear the increase in hate speech and dangerous content circulating the platform.
The list of celebrities leaving Twitter is ongoing, but here are the celebs who have announced their departure so far.
Balenciaga

It’s not just celebrities leaving Twitter. Balenciaga became the first major fashion brand to exit the platform following Musk’s new tenure.
Shonda Rhimes
Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes made a short and to-the-point statement about her decision to leave Twitter.

The 27-year-old supermodel Gigi Hadid deactivated her Twitter account, and made a statement on her Instagram story, stating that Twitter has been and is becoming “more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be a part of.” She then went on to say, “Only sorry to the fans, who I’ve loved connecting with for a decade via Twitter, but I can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”
Sara Barilles
Musician Sara Bareilles emphasized that the new reign on Twitter wasn’t the right place for her, and signed off the platform.
Toni Braxton
American singer Toni Braxton made a lengthier statement in fear of the new “free speech” content on the platform.
Ken Olin
Actor, director, and producer Ken Olin tweeted his departure with a heartfelt and encouraging message to uphold peace and generosity in the world.
Téa Leoni

Madam Secretary actress Téa Leoni tweeted, “I’m coming off Twitter today – let’s see where we are when the dust settles.” Leoni has since deactivated her account.
Alex Winter
Bill & Ted actor Alex Winter deactivated his Twitter account, and posted a tweet from Elon Musk to his Instagram captioned, “RIP Twitter.”
Bill Morrison
The Simpsons comic book artist and illustrator stated on LinkedIn that he would be leaving Twitter. In a statement to NBC, Morrison stated, “I thought I might wait to see if he reinstated Trump’s account, but decided that there were plenty of reasons to leave even absent of a Trump return.”
Erik Larsen
Comic book creator and artist known for The Amazing Spiderman, Erik Larson, tweeted back in April that “the day Elon Musk buys Twitter is the day I delete my account and leave Twitter.” Larsen appears to have stuck to his word and his account has since been deactivated.
Whoopi Goldberg
The latest celeb to announce their departure from the platform is Whoopi Goldberg. During her talk show The View, when discussing the latest Twitter news, Goldberg made her statement to quit the platform, saying, “I’m out.”
