What’s your favourite scary movie?
As October nears an end, there is no better time to undo all that mental health progress achieved during the summer than to shock yourself with some good old horror. While we understand that a man being surgically transformed into a giant walrus is not exactly everyone’s cup of wine (Wonder that!) We do believe any proper listing should have variety. This is why we have composed a Halloween movie guide catering to your every mood. So what would it be? An excellent bloody slasher fest or a demonic possession with a twist? Find your favourite from the listing below and dive into the wonderfully diverse world of genre-bending horror during the spookiest night of the year. So once again, get ready, set, scream!
Best of Paranormal
Let’s start with the basics. When you think of horror, you think of the paranormal. Ghosts, witches and some good old demon possessions are the cornerstones of the horror genre. From The Exorcist to the modern horror classic Hereditary and all the countless Paranormal Activities in between, you couldn’t have more choices regarding a single subgenre. Because of this, we have narrowed it down for you. From our curated selection, you can find a little of the old, a little of the new and some underrated classics that you might enjoy. Now, turn on the TV and avoid that Ouija board you once bought as a joke. Trust us on that.

For the ones who prefer their horror with a dose of comedy
It is no surprise that the slasher movies were dead in the water before Scream came along and completely reinvented the genre. The audience had grown tired of the predictability of slasher movies filled with overused character tropes and cliches. However, this created an opportunity for a new type of subgenre. With its sarcastic tone and self-deprecating humour, Scream made slashers famous again by leaning heavily toward meta-horror and setting an example of horror movies that you can laugh with. Chuckle at Shaun and Ed as they happen upon one of their crazy antics or scream to the TV with Randy Meeks in film enthusiast knowledge and add a little fun to your movie night.

Can’t go wrong with the classics
Are you looking for a guaranteed thrill? These picks are right out of the Holy Bible of horror, and every self-respecting movie fanatic should see these classics at least once. After all, have you really lived unless you have seen Christian Bale parade around half-clothed with a chainsaw? I didn’t think so. And hey, if nothing else, the next time you encounter a certifiable misogynist calling themselves an “Alpha man”, at least you can tell them that their favorite film of all time was directed by a woman and written by a gay man. Now that should give you a thrill! But seriously, if you haven’t seen The Shining, what are you doing?

Female Rage essentials
We have seen outstanding female characters in horror since Jess Bradford fought her heart out in Black Christmas in the 70’s. But it wasn’t until recently that we witnessed more female-centred storylines for our precious final girls, which turned them from pretty survivors into stone-cold protagonists. So what if they killed a few people in the process? These women deserve to go on a complete killing spree. After which, I might recommend a few sessions of trauma therapy just in case. But you know what? Their movie, their choice! Enjoy the rage!

For the fashion girls
Since this is a fashion magazine, after all, we thought it would be only fitting to dedicate a category for the fashion fanatics. Believe it or not, there is a lot more to Halloween movies than just reversed bear traps and terrified camp counsellors. You can find some of the most unexpected stylistic choices regarding styling and visual production under the horror umbrella. Just look at The Neon Dragon (not included in the listing since both necrophilia and cannibalism are a bit of an overkill for a mediocre movie. No matter how pretty the outlook). So if gore and exposed guts are not your thing, might we suggest a sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania in fishnet tights.
