The Met Ball, Costume Institute Gala, Costume Institute Benefit, differents names given through the year for the Met Gala. The first edition initiated by Eleanor Lambert was held in 1948. The former fashion publicist had the idea of creating a gala to raise money for the annual exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Ever since, the fundraising event organized by Vogue is one of the most popular gala ; for its theme, breathtaking outfits, precious guests and secret backstage pictures released the following days. Rumours are each invitation is preciously offered to the lucky ones, for the modest sum of 30 000$.

Probably the most awaited announcement of the event: the theme. Each year a new one is being announced, chosen for the gala and the exhibition which will be available at the Museum for a year. Here again, because of the pellicular year and for the first time, the theme is similar for the two subsequent galas. This year, the theme was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. The next one, which will be happening on the first Monday of May 2022, will be In America: An Anthology of Fashion.
The hosts: The year of Youth
The four hosts, Chalamet, Eilish Osaka and Gorman at the Gala
Each gala is hosted by a small group of people. In the past, personalities like Gianni Versace, Jackie Kennedy, Kate Moss, or even Rihanna had the chance of hosting the event. This year, four of them had the privilege of being part of it: the actor, Thimothée Chalamet, the singer, Billie Eilish, tennis player Naomi Osaka and the poet, Amanda Gorman. A panel representing the youth and different backgrounds, accomplishments and dreams each four of them illustrated.
