We present to you the interview with the international fashion designer, Tony Ward, who tells us more about his dazzling creations and creativity.
1. What was the inspiration behind this haute couture collection?
I got inspired by ‘Stardust’; these clusters of stars floating through the space into infinite twinkles on
dresses.
2. When you imagine the ideal woman wearing your couture pieces, how would you
describe her?
She’s a woman of confidence, who trusts her body and shapes the piece she’s wearing.
3. Haute Couture is rooted in tradition, but how do you see the world of haute couture
changing into the future?
The savoire-faire of Couture will always remain the same no matter how fast the fashion world is going, it’s the inspiration behind the other lines. Nevertheless, It has definitely changed into becoming less of a “classical” taste & more towards the edginess with an avant-gardiste touc, yet simplicity at its best. Who knows what the virtual/digital world is holding for us!
4. What are some ways in which the Tony Ward couture process differs from that of other
designers?
It’s all about the details for me! Details with layering of mixed fabrics & techniques; which will make it a unique design that is hard to copy.
5. When it comes to your couture collections, how much emphasis would you say is
placed on “trend” versus sheer imagination?
I have always emphasized on imagination rather than trend. I do get inspired by trends for sure as I seek for what my clients want, where the fashion world is heading….But the inspiration behind my collections always start with imagination then shifts into trends.
6. As the world changes and priorities shift, do you think that luxury haute couture collections
have a place in a sustainable and ecological future? How do you suggest the industry adapts to
new sustainability initiatives and regulations?
You can never reach the 100% of sustainability in the fashion world but we, at Tony Ward Fashion house has embarked on a journey to become more conscious and inspire change by making sustainable decisions. The company has dedicated hours of research to develop measures to reduce their environmental impact and not only insure a healthy workplace, but to carry out this movement into the collections… various Couture collections, where archive dresses were taken apart and along with already available material were revived to create new timeless Couture gowns.
7. Younger generations don’t seem to have the same level of appreciation for
craftsmanship these days. In a world where trends change every day and fast fashion has
taken over social media feeds, do you think that new generations to come will continue the
traditions of haute couture?
As much as I hope so, I believe that new generations will create a new fashion Couture. Not sure how as it’s still a vague vision but we can only dream of a better tomorrow with the generations to come!
