Scaling any business requires work and human resources. As you increase your reach, it is crucial to increase the size of your team, but it requires us to take a good hard look at the type of team we are building and the people we might be hiring. Pulling together an efficient team can make or break a business strategy. Entrepreneur, influencer, consultant, and business strategist Kinan Salameh understands the importance of an effective and motivated team.
Kinan Salameh is the managing director of six different companies ranging from real-estate to events. With a background in sales and marketing, Kinan has been tasked with building various teams over the years. “The quality of your business relies on the quality of your team,” explains Kinan. “Make the right hires, put them in the right direction, and let things go from there.” Kinan shares his five crucial insights on building an effective team.
1. Focus on roles
“First and foremost, create the roles that you need,” states Kinan. “Well-defined roles ensure that not only are you providing a role that will drive the appropriate goals but that you will also find the right person to fill that role. Make it clear to avoid any confusion regarding what you expect.”
2. Complement each other
“The saying opposites attract truly applies here,” says Kinan. “When you hire people and create a team, make sure the individuals compliment yourself and others. Look at your strengths and weakness, and then hire to fill the gaps.”
3. Provide the right tools
“Will your team be remote or in an office? Where do you expect them to work, and how do you expect them to collaborate,” asks Kinan. “Ensure that the work environment is seamless by providing the most efficient tools to do the job.”
4. Set attainable yet aggressive goals
“There is nothing more frustrating than unattainable goals,” explains Kinan. “While aggressive goals are important, make sure that you are viewing growth in a practical way providing benchmark goals that will push your team to succeed.”
5. Communicate effectively
“Communication is always key. Talk with your team and never leave them in the dark,” states Kinan. “When we communicate, we are creating an atmosphere of transparency that leads to accountability.”
Having built multiple businesses across various sectors by the young age of 26, Kinan values the work his teams have put in over the years. “My team is my business,” states Kinan. “If they don’t succeed, then I don’t succeed either.” Through goals, communication, and transparency, Kinan Salameh continues to build businesses and motivate people.
