Save the date for the marvellous performance of the Sledge Sister on the stage of La Salle des Etoiles. For the first time, a few months after Nile Rodgers and Chic, it is now the Sledge Sister turn to take their place on stage on 14 August!
Created in 1971 by four sisters ageing from 12 to 17, the career of Deborah, Joan, Kim and Kathy took off two years later with the release of their song titled “Mama Never Told Me”, becoming a top 20 hit in the UK. After a period of stagnation when the sisters were about to give up, lady luck blessed them. Their record company connected them with producers Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. Pairing with Chic resulted in the release of the track “Le Freak”, which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
However, their most significant success was in 1979 with the release of We Are Family, which is now considered a standard from the “Uptown Funk” era. Being a classic in the Disco repertoire, the album was certified platinum in the United States and gold in England. However, their numerous achievements were not enough to stop Kathy from dropping the group in 1989. Following Joan’s death in 2017, Kim and Deborah were the only remaining members.
