Dejzi, tell us about your greatest strength as a professional?

My greatest strength as a professional is creativity and dedication. Imagination and creative thinking are crucial elements in artistry. As a professional, I always try to first allow my creativity to flow freely and then with my dedication find ways to apply it into my creations.

Why did you decide to strike out on your own as a fashion designer?

As a kid I was always caught up by my desire to imagine different outfits for women and draw them on paper.  I didn’t really imagine myself as a fashion designer at that time, but with time my passion and ambition grew to the point that I started wishing to put my creations into life and also have different people around the world enjoy them.

Where do you look for creative inspiration?

Inspiration is one of the most important elements of my work and it comes from the beauty I perceive everywhere and every day. My inspiration is closely related to the image and concept of independent, self-loving and empowered women. It is also deeply related to the fascination I get from nature and everyday objects. Flowers are a central part of it also as it can be seen from the logo of my brand too.

Who was a mentor to you?

My two mentors were my mother and my husband. Both of them were central figures from early on, my mum with her expertise in sewing from early age and my husband who was always fascinated by my ideas and imagination. Apart from being mentors, they were also the biggest supporters from early on to this day!

Tell us more about the beginning of your career?

I took the first concrete steps towards a career as a fashion designer by the age of 17 but the momentum was building for years prior to that from the time I was a kid. My grandmother was a sewer and used to design and sew outfits for women locally at that time.  She passed this knowledge and curiosity to my mother who did that occasionally throughout her life.

As a kid, I was very often exposed to my grandmother’s atelier and all the fabrics, colorful strings, sewing machine and little drawings of dresses and costumes. The moment I decided to start sharing these ideas and creations with the world was the moment my mother, husband and I decided to put in place our little atelier at that time with one sewing machine, my mum as a sewer, my husband as the marketing leader and myself as the designer. Simple and little steps which brought in many people and soon enough we had to move into a bigger atelier and shop and also start hiring other sewers to cover the local requests initially. My first collections quickly took us from local to regional and quickly to a global market. Today we have a much bigger number of staff working to put Dejzi’s creations to life in the best possible way. During these past several years, my work has brought me many great and emotional moments that have only increased my motivation and desire for success. Moments such as when a personality like Paris Hilton wearing your creations for her new fragrance launch, a project that has a reach throughout the world, or an actress like Nour AlGhandour wearing one of your creations for an interview on one of the Middle East’s biggest TV channels with millions of views on YouTube, or different moments from artists wearing Dejzi on various red carpet events like the Grammys, all these moments have been crucial for me to dedicate myself even more to work and create big things. Now my ambition is that all women who purchase and wear my creations feel happy, confident, and timeless.

What is your greatest fear and how do you manage fear?

I don’t have any specific fears that I can mention. What I can say is that my focus is directed on not disappointing the “Dejzi Lovers” as I call them, so I dedicate a special time to all those who are wearing my brand and I want them to feel special every time they wear Dejzi creations.

Is there anything you wish you could tell your younger self?

The future is full of beautiful and unimaginable surprises. Let your creativity and imagination flow without judgment and add dedication and work to it. Nothing is unreachable.
