Munich, with its captivating mix of historical elegance and modern vibrancy, stands out as a city of remarkable character and charm. In this dynamic cityscape, The Charles Hotel has been highlighted by L’Officiel Monaco as one of the premier destinations.
The Charles Hotel enjoys a prime location between Karlsplatz and Königsplatz, right next to the serene Old Botanical Garden. This central yet peaceful setting offers guests easy access to Munich’s rich array of cultural landmarks, including museums and the city’s lively art scene, all just a short stroll away. Moreover, the expansive English Garden, one of the world’s largest urban parks, is conveniently close. The hotel’s proximity to the Main Station—just 300 meters away—and its straightforward connections to Munich International Airport, reachable in about 40 minutes by car, train, or bus, enhance its appeal for travelers.
Since opening in 2007, The Charles Hotel has been a key part of the Lenbachgärten development, a major project that also includes residential and office buildings. This development has revitalized the area between Karlsplatz and Königsplatz, with the hotel occupying the former site of the university library. The design of The Charles Hotel reflects its botanical surroundings, incorporating elements that echo the lush greenery of the Old Botanical Garden.
The hotel’s interior has recently been refreshed, with a redesign completed in Summer 2024. The updated rooms feature delicately striped wallpaper and vibrant accents in colors like yellow and turquoise, creating a light and inviting atmosphere. High-quality and sustainable materials, all sourced from Europe, enhance both the design and comfort of the rooms. The Charles Hotel offers 160 rooms, including 24 suites. The Royal Monforte Suite, located on the eighth floor, is the highlight of the accommodations, boasting 200 square meters of space and a large terrace with views of the Old Botanical Garden. This suite features an open-plan layout, including separate areas for sleeping, living, and dining, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.
The hotel’s restaurant, filled with natural light, serves a diverse range of Italian-inspired dishes. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Thomas Beiglböck, the menu features modern takes on Italian classics. During the summer, guests can enjoy dining on the 200-square-meter terrace surrounded by greenery. Till August 31st, the restaurant hosts a German Zuma pop-up, offering authentic Japanese dishes based on the Izakaya concept. Starting in mid-September, the new restaurant, Florio, will bring “Dolce Vita” flair with classic Italian cuisine curated by Fulvio Pierangelini, the Creative Director of Food at Rocco Forte Hotels.
Focusing on spa time can greatly enhance the travel experience, offering both physical and mental rejuvenation that makes a trip more enjoyable and fulfilling. The Charles Hotel provides an exceptional spa, known as The Charles Spa, which includes a spacious indoor pool, a well-equipped gym, and a variety of wellness treatments. Guests have access to massages, facials, and body treatments, along with options for private sessions in Pilates, Tai Chi, or Yoga. The spa is available to hotel guests at no additional cost, while non-residents can purchase day passes to enjoy the facilities.
