Echoes of Soft Power: Where Tenderness, Rebellion, and Heritage Meet Subtle Sophistication at Paris Fashion Week

This season, two Chinese talents stood out with distinct yet equally captivating visions, infusing the runways with a refined sense of modern sophistication. On one side, Shiatzy Chen, long established as a leading presence in Paris since 2008, continues to consolidate her position as a bridge between Eastern craftsmanship and Western couture codes. On the other, Shuting Qiu, the Antwerp-trained designer celebrated for her poetic use of color and texture, brings a bold, youthful energy to the city’s fashion landscape.

At Palais de Tokyo, Taiwanese maison Shiatzy Chen unveiled “Unstill”, a collection galloping between grace and rebellion. Drawing from the unbridled spirit of the horse, the designs embodied both power and lightness, a poetic blend of Oriental refinement and 1970s bohemian freedom. Flowing silhouettes, flared trousers, and lace blouses danced alongside soft tailoring in earthy and jewel-toned hues, from tobacco and coffee to cobalt and fuchsia. Each look captured the maison’s unique balance between structure and movement, tradition and modernity. Known as “the Chanel of Taiwan,” Shiatzy Chen has been presenting in Paris since 2008, and season after season continues to redefine its codes of elegance with creations that are both timeless and strikingly wearable for a new generation of fashion lovers.

Meanwhile, at the Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe, Shuting Qiu presented “Tender Rebellion” a celebration of femininity as quiet strength. The Antwerp-trained designer, known for her colorful, expressive approach to romanticism, transported her audience on a dreamlike journey from contemporary city life to the luminous poetry of China’s Tang dynasty. Her collection was a delicate symphony of silken rouge, wisteria, and gold tones contrasted with sharp black and white. Bows, florals, and ruffles, once symbols of innocence, were reimagined as emblems of confidence and resilience. Each model, almost doll-like in detail, reflected a softness turned into armor, a beauty both tender and defiant.

Though their aesthetics differ, Chen’s fluid elegance and Qiu’s vivid emotion, both designers embody a new era of creativity in Paris. They reinterpret heritage through a cosmopolitan lens, proving that cultural fusion is not just a theme but a natural evolution of today’s fashion narrative. Their work bridges continents and generations, speaking to a world where craftsmanship, poetry, and modernity coexist effortlessly.

As these visionary women continue to shape their international presence, one thing is clear: their language of style is one of freedom, flowing, fearless, and beautifully unstill.
