Listening as a Way of Living: Technics and the Art of Sound Control

Accessories often go unnoticed, yet headphones reveal more about daily life than most objects carried in public. Resting on or over the ears, they redraw the boundary between the individual and the surrounding world, deciding what is allowed in and what is kept out. Their meaning is shaped less by design than by behaviour — when they are worn, how quickly they are removed, and whether they signal focus, retreat, or transition. Headphones accompany movement through streets, airports, and workspaces, quietly controlling rhythm and attention. How often does a pair of headphones already explain whether someone is available, absorbed, or deliberately elsewhere?

This relationship sharpens when headphones are worn as a constant companion rather than an occasional tool. Sound becomes curated, silence optional, and interruption a choice rather than an accident. With the outside world softened or muted, posture and pace adjust, and presence turns inward. Decisions about what to hear — music, voices, nothing at all — are made in advance and carried through the day. In this way, headphones act less as devices and more as personal filters, shaping how time, space, and concentration are managed moment by moment.

The Editor’s Choice is there to help readers make confident decisions, based on experience and real use. After all, what matters more than sound you can rely on every day? In this spirit, Technics by Panasonic stands out for its consistency, precision, and dependable performance.

Technics EAH-AZ100 in Champagne Gold

Technics marks a special moment with the introduction of a celebratory edition of its EAH-AZ100 true wireless earbuds, presented in a refined Champagne Gold finish. At the centre of this model is a newly developed driver concept that uses magnetic fluid to reduce distortion and unwanted vibration, resulting in a sound profile that remains clear, balanced, and controlled even at higher volumes. Listening adapts naturally to its surroundings thanks to intelligent noise cancelling that responds to environment and fit, while an AI-supported voice system keeps conversations clear, even in challenging conditions.

The experience is further expanded through spatial audio optimised for Dolby Atmos®, allowing music, film soundtracks, and spoken content to gain a greater sense of space and depth. Head tracking adjusts the sound field in real time, maintaining orientation as the listener moves. Ease of use remains central, with smooth switching between multiple devices, extended listening time with and without the charging case, and wireless charging support.

Comfort has been refined through a lighter, more compact form and improved ear tips that enhance fit and acoustic sealing. Sustainability is also addressed through redesigned packaging that is completely plastic-free and reduced in volume for more efficient transport. Available from June 2025, the Champagne Gold edition of the EAH-AZ100 presents a considered evolution of Technics’ true wireless range, combining technical precision with a quiet sense of celebration.

Technics EAH-A800: Precision Sound for Work and Everyday Listening

The Technics EAH-A800 wireless over-ear headphones combine refined sound, effective noise cancelling, and clear voice transmission in a design made for everyday listening and work. Built on decades of audio expertise, they deliver balanced, detailed sound across the full range, from subtle musical passages to powerful vocals and bass, while maintaining control and clarity.

A newly developed 40 mm driver with a seamless dome construction supports low distortion and precise bass, enhanced by an acoustic chamber that regulates airflow. High-resolution audio playback via Bluetooth and LDAC allows compatible sources to be heard with extended dynamic range.

For calls, eight microphones work together with beamforming and noise reduction to isolate the speaker’s voice, even in busy or outdoor environments, with special attention given to reducing wind noise. Dual hybrid noise cancelling adapts to different surroundings, while ambient and attention modes allow users to remain aware of their environment when needed.

Multipoint Bluetooth connectivity enables two devices to be connected at once, and long battery life supports extended listening without frequent charging. Comfort is ensured through softly contoured ear pads with memory foam, a lightweight design, and a wear sensor that pauses and resumes playback automatically, making the EAH-A800 well suited to long days and varied settings.
