Power of Women: CHANEL Métiers d’art 2020/21 collection

Since 2002, traditionally at the beginning of December, CHANEL has been showing the much-anticipated pre-fall collection Metiers D’Art. Despite the situation in the world, the fashion house has not changed its traditions this year either.

Collections CHANEL Metiers D’Art is a symbiosis of art and fashion, ready-to-wear and haute couture. They are created by the fashion house in conjunction with the unique artisans of centuries-old ateliers.

These are French Desrues paruriers, Lemarié feathermakers, Maison Michel milliners, Lesage and Atelier Montex embroiderers, Massaro shoemakers, Goossens jewellers, Causse Gantier glovemakers, and Lognon pleaters.

Métiers d’Art is French for “master of the art”.

This year the presentation of Metiers D’Art collection under the direction of Virginie Viard, Creative Director of CHANEL, was held in the Loire Valley, in the Château de Chenonceau. Also known as “Le Château des Dames”, Ladies’ Castle. Only one guest could enjoy the truly wonderful show with his own eyes. It was the brand’s muse, Kristen Stewart.

The selected location of the show is very symbolic. The name of it — not accidental. Six legendary women, who left a noticeable mark in the history of France lived in it at different times. They were Katherine Briçonnet, Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de’ Medici, Louise de Lorraine, Gabrielle d’Estrées, and Louise Dupin.

Katherine built the castle, Diana and Catherine made a significant contribution complementing it with an incredible arched bridge, where there is a gallery that amazes with its magnificence and attracts tourists from all over the world. Tremendous castle landscape parks are impressive unless we count Versailles.

An interesting fact: it is difficult not to notice the striking similarity of the monogram of Catherine de Medici in the form of two intertwining letters C and Chanel logo, which first appeared on the CHANEL N°5 perfume in 1921.

The CHANEL Metiers D’Art collection is dominated by black, which was passionately loved by both Catherine de Medici and Gabrielle Chanel, incredible women of their Epoque.
