Sex and the City is back!
An iconic announcement
It will be a 10-episode show featuring Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) now in their 50s. All three posted a teaser on their Instagram accounts, Sarah Jessica Parker accompanying hers with the caption “I couldn’t help but wonder...where are they now?”
Kim Cattrall’s absence from Sex and the City
Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones) will not be part of the reboot. The actress has previously spoken about wanting to distance herself from the show. During an interview with Piers Morgan, back in 2017, he asked her if there would be another movie to which she replied:
It is also still unclear if the male characters from the series and movies will return to the show. While Sex and the City will not be the same without Samantha Jones, we are still beyond excited for this stylish, romantic, funny series to be back in our lives.
Patricia Field as the costume designer
The costume designer Patricia Field, who made Sarah Jessica Parker a fashion icon when she designed the initial series and movies' costumes, will also be styling the reboot.
We can't help but wonder if it will spark controversy given Field's latest costume design in Emily in Paris. The show elicited mixed reactions with its range of French clichés, erasing the city's diversity, and Emily's tacky fashion. Field's styling of Emily plays into the cliché of American stereotypes by making Emily's character take style more literally.
We are confident that Field will present looks equally as iconic as her previous ones in Sex and the City. Something definitely worth looking forward to in 2021.
