MOSCOT, the iconic New York City eyewear institution, presents its Fall-Winter 2021 campaign and collection with 6 new frame styles as an ode to the quirky artistry and bold expression the downtown roots and fellow New Yorkers.
The new campaign captures colorful vignettes of intimate moments and celebrates the unapologetic escapism of everyday rituals. Styled back to the ‘70s with influences of today’s modern flare, the campaign serves as a time capsule to the past and a ticket to the future.
“Just as the small nuances of our own environments shape our lives, the intricate details serve as the foundation of the collection.”
Shares Chief Design Officer and 5th Generation Zack Moscot.
He adds, “..whether it’s through the delicate striped metal texturing on our new aviator — The SHAV, or the subtle yet dramatic cat-eye curves of The FRAYDA, these new frames share a unique balance between modern details and heritage design.”
Set in an exaggerated and kitschy rendition of Grandma Sylvia Moscot’s living room, the campaign was shot in the iconic Orchard Street gallery that has served the loyal and eclectic MOSCOT community for decades. The transformative space has taken form as a stage for up-and-coming musicians, a hangout for legendary Lower East Siders, and features a salon wall of past and present icons who don MOSCOT frames.
The MOSCOT Fall 2021 Collection firstly introduces The SHAV, The TATAH and The KITZEL.
The SHAV was inspired by Joey Shavala, AKA the King of the Lower East Side, often made a spectacle revving his Harley down Mulberry Street on his way into the Shop. Borrowing his moniker, and his signature style, from the King of Rock and Roll, Joey was always flashin’ a pair of gold aviators and a combed back pompadour. With Joey’s rock star persona in mind, The SHAV was designed to turn heads on your way out the door.
The TATAH was inspired by MOSCOT’s long time Patient Coordinator, Barbara. The friendly face greeting all visitors into the Shop on the weekends. While she always welcomed you in with a smile, you were bound to head home with a fresh look and a gratified grin.
The KITZEL was carefully crafted to find the perfect balance of round and square, scholarly and funky, fashionable and functional.
Apart from those key items, MOSCOT further brings The ZINDIK, The FRAYDA and The FLIPTOSH – each model unique in its own way.
The ZINDIK is zesty and zealous, sometimes a bit zany this one’s named for Abe Zindik, a local L.E.S. resident and professor at Brooklyn College.
The FRAYDA is a joyful nod to Third Generation Joel’s sister, Beverly. If there’s one thing to know about this Moscot matriarch, it’s that she lit up every room with her pearly whites and magnetic charm.
With The FLIPTOSH, an optical-sun duo, you can double down on style and join the #LEMTOSHLegacy The FLIPTOSH way. Heads or tails, you’re a sure winner no matter how the coin lands!
